Mugabe: The Wonderful Thing for a Despot..

Is the world powerless to do anything about a despot like Robert Mugabe and his murderous regime? Or are they unwilling to act because they have investments in the country like the senior Tories who are defying their leader's instruction to remove all economic ties? Then we have Thabo Mbeki, who is reportedly lobbying other African leaders to legitimise the results of the second 'election', where people were forced to vote for Mugabe, under threat of death and yet still many brave people spoiled their ballots and wrote messages of support for the MDC (even though they'd been told by the government they knew how they would vote and they would be killed if they did anything but vote for Mugabe and Zanu PF). I cannot see how much more evidence the powers that be need to act, unless of course it isn't in their personal interest to do so.

Unfortunately the 'World's Policeman' cannot become involved - there is no oil in Zimbabwe.

Quite. But I think the whole of the Western World carry the can for this one, just as they do in Darfur too.

I'm afraid that this along with your other Mugabe one are so true! I think vast amounts of bloodshed are just a matter of time.

Very sad but true sal and the longer it drags on the worse it will be once the tipping point comes. Many African leaders should hang their head's in shame.

it is SOOOOO frustrating (and frankly EMBARRASSING) being a South African, when our leader is clearly living on some other planet, and poor harried Zimbabweans who flee the torment of their own country have to face xenophobic mobs in ours.... I do hope the world will wake up and make MEANINGFUL interventions before they have the blood of yet another genocide on their hands. Where is the UN????
